Hey there, I’m Elyse!

I’ve always been someone who didn’t take things at face value. Whether it was a “miracle” product, a diet trend, or my mental health treatment, I’ve questioned the status quo and sought to find creative solutions.

When I began struggling with my mental health as an adolescent, I spent years trying various conventional therapies and medications with little improvement. I began to believe I was doomed to be stuck in feelings of anxiety and depression. Discouraged by the limitations of the treatment I had received, I became a social worker in hopes of learning to provide others with a better experience. While this was a helpful framework, I knew that something was missing.

While working with patients at the psychiatric emergency room and inpatient psychiatric units at Bellevue Hospital for five years, I gained a deep understanding of conventional therapy and psychiatry. I was also severely burnt out at the time and found the biggest relief in exercise, nutrition, breathwork, and other lifestyle changes. I noticed that these things, especially movement, drastically improved my mental health and became a personal trainer to learn more about the connection between the mind and the body.

Upon understanding that nervous system functioning was what tied the two together, I studied applied neuroscience and brain retraining techniques for five years. As I implemented these practices for myself, I started to see significant change; I became more optimistic, felt more excitement for life, and was better able to adapt in times of stress. I was also finally able to titrate off multiple medications, some of which I was on for over 15 years, that I previously believed I’d have to be on for life. I shared these modalities with my clients who were able to move, feel, and perform better, some even finding relief after years of chronic pain.

Realizing there was a need for holistic mental health treatment that included an understanding of the brain as well as the body and nervous system, I began my holistic psychotherapy and coaching practice.  Since then, I’ve watched countless clients become more resilient, centered, energized, and focused. Some are new to therapy and others are seeking something dynamic and different from what is offered by others. Or they may be like me - having tried everything and lost hope. I love working with people who are open to trying new things.  My practice continues to expand and evolve as I study and incorporate functional medicine, individualized nutrition, somatic practices, breathing techniques, Reiki, tai chi, and cutting edge devices.

When not working, I can be found weightlifting, painting, taking DJ classes, chasing the sun and beach, geeking out on biohacking techniques, and searching for the best chocolate babka in New York City.
